Trying to stay warm this winter? MLGW is offering free space heaters, electric blankets to the disabled and low-income seniors

Those interested can submit online applications through Dec. 6, 2024, or until there are no more units available.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) is inviting low-income seniors and disabled residents to apply for free space heaters or electric blankets for the upcoming winter.

Through the Power of Warmth program, MLGW and Neighborhood Christian Centers Inc. are giving out 200 electric blankets and a limited number of space heaters to qualified customers.

Those interested can submit online applications through Dec. 6, 2024, or until there are no more units available. People who qualify will receive a text message containing information about pickup by January 13, 2025.

You must live in Shelby County and be disabled or a low-income senior (60 or older) with an MLGW account. You are not eligible if you have already received a blanket or heater from MLGW in the past. 

Applicants will require the following:

  • An MLGW bill in their name
  • A Tennessee State ID or Driver’s License to verify age and address
  • Their most recent pay stub, social security income statement or bank statement showing direct deposit
  • Disability documentation, if applicable.
