MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Light, Gas and Water said a squirrel was to blame for an outage Friday morning that caused more than 10,000 customers to lose power.

The utility company officials said the squirrel took out a circuit breaker at one of the substations, causing the outages.

MLGW said crews were able to restore power to 95% of customers within 10 minutes of the outage.

Most outages are caused by these top three factors, according to MLGW – extreme weather, cars hitting equipment, and animal interference. The company said, “We've had the trifecta this week. We appreciate everyone's patience as we work and continue to ensure that everyone has power.”
