MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – A Memphis homicide detective has retired after reportedly having sex with a murder suspect.
According to the Daily Memphian, MPD Lieutenant Eric Kelly submitted his resignation in November 5th, months after supervisors filed charges accusing him of compromising a criminal case. By resigning, Kelly avoids disciplinary action.
Records show that Kelly took an unauthorized taxpayer paid trip toAlabama in June 2018 with a known gang member who’s been arrested 11 times. Thishappened four months after he took a statement from her in connection to ahomicide.
Kelly reportedly admitted to the relationship, but said that hedid not use sex as leverage in the murder investigation.
Kelly was with MPD for 26 years before retiring.
