MPD Needs Your Help In Solving The Murder Of Army Sgt. Calvi

There are still no answers as to who shot and killed U.S. Army Sgt. Calvin Wilhite, Jr. two years ago in downtown Memphis.

Wilhite was killed May 24th, 2015 while walking down South Fourth Street near Beale with his fiancée.

Wilhite’s family held a vigil Wednesday night near the spot where he died.

His mother said as tough as it is to hold events like this, they will continue to do whatever it takes to keep her Wilhite’s name out there to find his killer.

Family and friends prayed together and shared a few words about what Wilhite, nicknamed Yung Coo, meant to them. They waved American flags for the Army sergeant, formed the word “Coo,” and had a balloon release to honor his life.

Relatives said the past two years have been horrible, and knowing the suspects are still out there makes it worse.

“Like yesterday like yesterday. You know I cry. There’s not a day that don’t go by that I don’t cry. So just because it’s been two years that doesn’t mean it’s gotten easier. It seems like it’s getting harder because we don’t have that closure,” said Valerie Henderson, Wilhite’s mother.

In February, Memphis Police released information again to help find the two suspects they believe are involved in the case.

According to MPD, the driver of the suspect car has a light complexion, appeared to have hazel eyes, 22-25 years of age, with a high top fade with some curl on top.  Investigators said the passenger in the car was described as having medium to dark complexion, with a chubby face, 22-25 years of age, and a regular fade hairstyle. The suspect car was described as a greenish/gray color Chrysler Sebring 4-door sedan.

There is still a $20,000 reward for information that leads to the arrests of two suspects.

If you have information on this case, you are asked to call Crimestoppers at 528-CASH.
