MPD: Two officers injured after crashing into each other while headed to call

MPD said the officers were headed to the area of South McLean Boulevard and Central Avenue to assist another officer who was responding to a carjacking call.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police Department said two officers are recovering after a crash while responding to a call in midtown Memphis overnight.

Investigators said just after 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, the officers were headed to the area of South McLean Boulevard and Central Avenue to assist another officer who was responding to a carjacking call.

MPD said both officers were "operating in emergency mode" when the two squad cars crashed into each other in the 1100 block of Central Avenue. No other vehicles were involved.

Both officers were taken to Regional One Health and are in non-critical condition.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
