MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded to a multi-car crash with injuries early Saturday morning on I-40 Eastbound.

MPD says the crash happened around 12:30 a.m. near Sycamore View Road.  According to reports, a car was traveling eastbound on I-40 when a dark blue Dodge Challenger rear-ended them and failed to stop, continuing east on the interstate. The driver of the car that was rear-ended had a dash camera that captured the crash, but it could not be accessed at the time of the report.

A third car, also traveling eastbound in the second lane, reported being rear-ended by the car that was initially hit. A fourth car on I-40 reported being hit after the car involved in the initial accident lost control due to the crash with the Dodge Challenger.

Police reported significant damage from the crash. The second car sustained damage to the front end, rear end, and rear passenger side; the third car incurred damage to both the driver and passenger sides; and the fourth car suffered damage to the front end and driver side.

The second car was towed privately by Null's Towing, while the third and fourth cars were towed by White's Towing.

Emergency responders from the Memphis Fire Department (MFD) arrived on the scene and took the driver from the third car to St. Francis Bartlett Hospital with non-critical injuries. Following the crash, the driver received a citation for violating the financial responsibility law.

The driver from the fourth car involved was cited for operating without a valid state driver’s license, violating the financial responsibility law, and improper state registration.

Both drivers have court dates set for November 13, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. in Division 2 court at 201 Poplar Avenue.

According to MPD, the investigation into the crash continues as authorities gather further information.
