MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Both the national and Memphis NAACP are keeping close tabs on Wednesday night’s deadly U.S. Marshal-involved shooting.
Memphis NAACP President Deidre Malone said she’s concerned about transparency, since the U.S. Marshals who shot and killed Brandon Webber did not wear a body camera.
In fact, Local 24 News confirmed with a department of justice spokesperson that u-s marshals across the nation are ‘not’ required to wear body cameras when issuing warrants on wanted suspects.
“It could have been important to both sides of the issue. You could have seen how the Marshals interacted with Mr. Webber and how Mr. Webber actually interacted with them,” says Malone.
A DOJ spokesperson said there’s a chance U.S. Marshals could be required to wear body cameras in the future.
