Bus riders hosted a block party in honor of a new north Memphis bus route.
The 31 Firestone Bus Route is part of Mata’s most recent service changes.
Bus service has been lacking in some impoverished areas since the 31 Crosstown was cut four years ago due to budget constraints.
However, last month Mata’s Board of Commissioners agreed to restore the northern half of the route with new service changes.
“This route is really vital. When the 31 was cut there was virtually no bus service in new Chicago. We can see in this neighborhood that people have lost access to a lot of important things. When the route was cut we heard a lot of really great feedback from people in this community there very happy to see this route coming back,” said Justin David with the Memphis Bus Riders Union
The new route will start running Monday. The party was held at the new Chicago CDC.
