Man critical following shooting in Nutbush

MPD responded to a report of aggravated assault Saturday night, Oct. 5.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is in critical condition following shooting in Nutbush on Saturday, Oct. 5, says the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

MPD responded to a report of aggravated assault at 3735 Whittier Road just after 10 p.m., activating their body-worn camera during the response.

Officers were dispatched to the scene of a shooting at the corner of Orchi Road and Jackson Avenue. The victim reported that he was shot and had driven himself to 3735 Whittier Road, says MPD.

Police found the victim sitting in his car, where he stated that he had been shot several times by a woman.

Officers say a witness reported a disturbance outside his house just before 10 p.m.

According to the witness, he saw two suspects, a woman and a man, involved in an argument. At one point, the witness stated that the man started punching the woman and tried to pull her into a silver Lexus SUV (license plate TNTT2371). The witness reported that the woman ran from the man, running into his driveway, while the man drove away.

The witness then watched the man return and park in front of his home. The victim indicated that the woman called someone, and a slim-built man approached from North Villa Drive and handed her a chrome hand gun.

The witness reported that the woman walked up to the SUV and fired what he believed to be four shots. He also stated that the man who handed her the gun ran north down Villa Drive, while the woman ran in an unknown direction.

The witness confirmed that he has video footage of the incident.

The Memphis Fire Department made the scene and took the victim to Regional One Health in critical condition.

The lieutenant and major arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Crime scene officers were on hand to collect evidence and take photographs. Additionally, the Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) and the felony response team were on the scene to provide help and to further investigate the incident.
