MPD officer injured in police chase on I-240

Police say 3 teens and 2 adults are in custody after an on foot pursuit.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — According to MPD, 3 teens and 2 adults are in custody after a police chase on I-240.

Around 2 p.m., officers located a vehicle on 1700 Getwell road. Police say the vehicle was stolen and was the suspect vehicle in several robberies. 

Officers deployed stop sticks and attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle fled.

Police pursued the vehicle but ended the pursuit when the vehicle entered opposing traffic on I-240. 

Additional officers in the area observed the vehicle exit I-240 and Getwell, side swipe a car, and come to a stop. 

Four suspects ran from the vehicle and one who remained in the vehicle was take into custody.

With the assistance of K9 and Aviation all suspects were located and detained. 

Officers have 3 teenagers and 2 adults in custody. 

Police say one juvenile suspect, was transported to Le Bonheur non-critical from an injury sustained during the foot pursuit. One juvenile was transported to Le Bonheur non-critical for a medical issue unrelated to the pursuit. 

An officer was injured during the search and foot pursuit and was transported to the hospital in non-critical condition.

Charges have not been filed at this time.

MPD says this is an ongoing investigation.
