Man dies in hospital after house fire on Union Extended in Midtown

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man has died after a house fire in Midtown, according to the Memphis Fire Department.

MFD said the house fire happened at 2606 Union Ext. around 9 p.m. on June 19. They said rescue and firefighting operations started as soon as they made the scene, and they found one man injured. 

The man, who lived in the home, was taken to Regional One in critical condition, according to MFD. On June 20, MFD confirmed the man died due to smoke inhalation.

Memphis Fire said the cause of the fire was accidental and originated from an electrical malfunction in the carport area.

MFD said the status of the working smoke detector in the home is unknown, and there is around $105,000 worth of damage to the building and vehicles, and content losses totaling $60,000.
