Feed the Need event proves the giving spirit is alive this holiday season

PowerPeoples held a Feed the Need event Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, at Morris Park near downtown Memphis.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Thanksgiving Day 2023 may be over, but the giving spirit is still going strong in the Mid-South.

PowerPeoples held a Feed the Need event Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, at Morris Park near downtown Memphis. Those in need received not only meal, but also cold-weather clothing such as hats, scarves, gloves and socks.

PowerPeoples said it has been committed to helping those who are unhoused since 2018. Founder Mario Noland-Dillard said it hit him personally when he found his estranged father living in a homeless shelter.

“We consider it an honor and a privilege to feed the homeless each year,” he said. “Last year marked our most significant turnout, with over 100 individuals receiving support. Homelessness could happen to anyone. We hope this puts a smile on several faces during the Thanksgiving weekend and reminds all of us how blessed we are.”

Every year the turnout gets bigger and bigger. Officials said 2022’s turnout was more than 100 people, which had been the largest, but Saturday’s may have surpassed that number. PowerPeoples also offers life coaching and more.
