MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The United Way of the Mid-South’s Board of Directors has named Tomeka Hart Wigginton as the organization’s new President and CEO.
She succeeds Rev. Kenneth S. Robinson, M.D., who announced his retirement in June.
Hart Wigginton is a former teacher and lawyer, who served most recently as managing director and special advisor to Blue Meridian Partners. She served in the past as President and CEO of the Memphis Urban League, a Special Program Officer with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and VP roles with the Southern Education Foundation and Teach for America.
She also founded The HarWigg Group in 2023, a consulting firm for nonprofit, public sector, and philanthropy organizations.
“I am honored to serve as the next leader of United Way of the Mid-South,” said Hart Wigginton. “United Way’s impact on families is transformational and securing the future of Driving The Dream and expanding upon the mission will be critical for our community.”
“Tomeka brings to United Way exceptional leadership experience in improving financial outcomes for people, by addressing their critical needs,” said Darrell Cobbins, Board Chair in a statement. “Her expertise aligns with the mission of United Way and Driving The Dream, which has proven to be an effective model for transforming lives and helping people move out of poverty.”
Driving The Dream works with nearly 200 independent agencies to help those living in poverty connect with services for financial stability.
Hart Wigginton will officially begin on Dec. 2, 2024.
