MEMPHIS, Tenn — A Memphis non-profit is hoping to bring more housing help into Binghampton by turning something old into something new.
United Housing ceremonially broke ground Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023, on their new office in the former ‘Caritas Village’ building. Once renovations are done, the new office will act as a housing education and resource hub to help build and renovate affordable homes.
The goal is to prevent people from being priced out of their homes because of growing property values in the neighborhood.
"I think there needs to be a little more affordability, and also at the same time, you have homes that need more renovations and work, so how can we make sure we have a balance?" said Amy Schaftlein, Executive Director United Housing.
Construction is expected to start in two or three months, and United Housing hopes to open the new office in the summer. Learn more at https://www.uhinc.org/binghampton-bound.
