Phil Trenary Posthumously Honored By Memphis City Council

The Memphis City Council posthumously honored former Greater Memphis Chamber President Phil Trenary.

A brief ceremony held late Tuesday afternoon at city hall.

Known as a champion of Memphis, his adopted hometown, Trenary is credited with recruiting and maintaining nearly 30,000 jobs through his leadership of the chamber. Trenary was called a visionary, while also being recognized for his leadership bringing business leaders together for the purpose of moving Memphis forward.

Brittnie Trenary accepted the humanitarian award on her father’s behalf with support from the chamber’s staff.

“Humanitarianism means one who supports and promotes the welfare of others and he didn’t just talk about it. He acted on it and that’s what makes him so unique. Whatever he said it was he was planning to do, that is exactly what he did,” said Beverly Robertson, President of the Greater Memphis Chamber.

Trenary was shot and killed in downtown Memphis in September 2018 after a chamber event.
