COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Local 24 News has new details on the shooting that left a Memphis pastor dead and his wife injured.
According to police records, Latoshia Daniels showed up at Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church pastor Brodes Perry’s apartment in Collierville Thursday night. Police say Mrs. Perry let Daniels inside, saying they had known her in Little Rock. According to the affidavit, the wife and Daniels spoke for about 30 minutes before Pastor Perry showed up at the apartment. Police say they spoke for about 10 minutes more, and Daniels said it’s getting late and started to leave.
Police say Mrs. Perry told them she opened the door, and when she turned to Daniels, she saw her pull out a handgun and shoot the pastor several times, yelling “You broke my heart!” as she fired. Police say the wife banged on neighbor’s door to call police. Police say she told them she walked back in an knelt by her husband as Daniels walked toward the kitchen, and said Daniels told her to “get out of the way” and shot her in the shoulder. Mrs. Perry told police Daniels then began to reload the gun with another magazine, and police showed up.
Police reports go on to say responding officers found Daniels still armed with the gun and refusing to put it down. They say an officer fired a round from “a less lethal shotgun,” causing her to fall and drop the gun. They then took her into custody.
Police say they took Daniels to the hospital, and when she was being discharged as officers tried to cuff her, she jerked away and shoved the officer, then ran down the ER hall. Investigators say that officer and another officer eventually were able to take her down, and say she grabbed one of the officer’s shirts and began swinging. Police say she hit one of the officers, but they were eventually able to get her cuffed and in custody.
Police say the pastor’s wife told them she was not aware if her husband and Daniels had been having an affair, but she believed it was possible based on Daniels’ actions.
According to the affidavit, Collierville police say Daniels’ actions during the shooting were premeditated.
Daniels is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, employment of a firearm during commission of a dangerous felony, assault on an officer, escape, and resisting arrest. She is set to appear in Collierville court Tuesday.
