The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art is celebrating 100 years in the Bluff City. As a gift to Memphis, the museum is bringing in a public art exhibit to that’s been featured in major cities around the world. It’s called the RedBall Project.

The RedBall Project has made its way around the world–from Taipei to Sydney to Barcelona.

On April 28th, it will come to the Bluff City, making its first stop at the Brooks Museum of Art.

“It takes the museum beyond this wall into the city,” explained Andria Lisle.

Lisle is curating the exhibit. She says the RedBall Project will tackle the elephant in the room so to speak. Is this art?

“It’s there to start a conversation about art. It’s there for people to engage with architecture, for people to engage with history, it changes the way you look at your city,” said Lisle.

This public art won’t just be at the museum. The New Daisy Theater on Beale Street and Hattiloo Theatre in Midtown are just a few on the list of stops. It’s the first time for the RedBall Project to come to the American South.

“Kurt Perschke is the artist behind RedBall. He came to Memphis in December 2015 and spent about 10 days here,” said Lisle. “He loves history and I think he’s fascinated by Memphis’ history both as a musical town and an important town in the Civil Rights Movement.”

The RedBall Project will be at 10 different sites in Memphis over the course of 10 days.
