The Stax Museum of American Soul Music honored singer and song writer Otis Redding along with members of the Bar-Kays Sunday, marking the 50th anniversary of their deaths.
Redding and members of the Bar-Kays died on December 10, 1967 when their plane crashed into a lake in Madison, Wisconsin.
Redding was only 26 at the time of the crash, but was already one of the most prominent soul singers of his generation.
“I think for a lot of people it’s still very raw, still very real. So many of people that used to work here at Stax Records, that played music with Otis, it still hurts them,” said Jeff Kollath, Executive Director of the Stax Museum.
Kollath said they celebrate the artists’ lives every day, but Sunday morning was more about reflecting on their legacy.
