Remnants of Hurricane Helene bring power outages to the Mid-South

Many are already facing power outages across the Mid-South.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Thousands are already experiencing power outages in the Mid-South as the remnants of Hurricane Helene bring rain and gusty winds to the area.

Rain totals will likely be 1 to 2 inches in much of the area, with some neighborhoods seeing up to 4 inches of rain in a 24 hour period. The highest rain totals will likely be along and north of Interstate 40 through West Tennessee. While some minor street flooding is possible, major flooding is not anticipated at this time.

Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) customers are already without power. As of 3:40 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, MLGW has reported 26 outages, affecting 693 customers.

Entergy is reporting a total of 1,594 customers affected by power outages in Mississippi, with 0 affected customers in Desoto County.

MLGW as released the following statement on the outages:

If you experience a power outage, MLGW said you should call their outage center at (901) 544-6500. You can also visit their outage center website HERE.

Energized power lines may not be visible among the rubble. Report downed lines immediately to Entergy at 1-800-ENTERGY (1-800-368-3749), and call your local police station or fire department.
