OLIVE BRANCH, Miss — The City of Olive Branch announced Thursday they are declaring a state of emergency due to the icy conditions in the city and on the roads.
Olive Branch said that while they've had sand and salt trucks running around the clock to treat roads, the expected re-freezing of roadways overnight into Friday morning will create dangerous driving conditions.
The Olive Branch Police Department issued their inclement weather policy, meaning they won't be responding to minor crashes where injuries aren't reported and cars don't need to be towed.
If you're involved in a minor crash in Olive Branch and don't need medical assistance or towing, Olive Branch Police asks to exchange information with the other person and report the incident to the police when road conditions are back to normal. If you do need medical assistance or a tow, call 911 or (662) 895-4111 for help.
The city is also asking residents to conserve water and avoid non-essential water use to help replenish water supply after high demand was placed on the water system.
The high demand resulted from rising temperatures coming out of the winter storm. The city said residents should avoid washing clothes, running dishwashers, and other activities that involve using large quantities of water.
Some areas might experience lower than normal water pressure because of the high demand of water usage, the city said.
Residents seeing water leaks should call Public Works at 662-895-4111.
