GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — A Tennessee Senate Republican leader was arrested in Georgia Tuesday for driving under the influence and hit-and-run.
Sen. Ken Yager (R-Kingston) was arrested by Georgia State Patrol Tuesday and booked into the Glynn County Detention Center, according to a media release from the Glynn County Detention Center.
According to the release, Yager, 77, was booked for DUI, hit-and-run and failure to stop at a stop sign. The senator posted a more than $2,100 bond and was released from the detention center Wednesday.
Sen. Yager sent WBIR the following statement after the arrest:
An unfortunate incident happened last night. On the advice of my attorney, I cannot discuss the particulars at this time. I am and will continue to cooperate fully with authorities to bring this incident to an appropriate conclusion.
Yager has held his Senate seat since 2008 and represents nine counties in Tennessee including, Macon, Clay, Pickett, Overton, Fentress, Morgan, Scott, Campbell and Roane.
