Senatobia day care director arrested for simple assault, Senatobia police say

Physical contact doesn't always have to occur in order for the act to be classified as simple assault, but some of these charges have included slapping and shoving.

SENATOBIA, Miss — The facility director of a daycare in Senatobia, Mississippi has been arrested in connection to allegations of simple assault, according to police in the area.

The Senatobia Police Department (SPD) said that officers were contacted on Wednesday, Nov. 15 by a Mississippi State Department of Health Bureau of Child Care Licensure investigator. This investigator reportedly told police that a child was assaulted by an employee of Peek-A-Boo Playschool, located on Norfleet Drive. The investigator named the employee in question as the facility's director Amye Durham.

Police said that investigators from the MSDH Bureau of Child Care Licensure met with SPD investigators on Thursday, Nov. 16, and they discussed the allegation. It was determined by police that there were two separate incidents with two separate children that needed to be discussed, according to the SPD.

Evidence was reportedly discussed and evaluated along with discussions about if criminal statutes were violated, according to SPD. Police reportedly determined that the appropriate charge for the incidents for which probably cause had been developed was "simple assault."

Simple assault charges are typically those that cause someone to fear physical harm or injury. Physical contact doesn't always have to occur in order for the act to be classified as simple assault, but some of these charges have included slapping and shoving.

Two warrants were issued for Durham's arrest on Thursday, Nov. 16, according to SPD. Durham was arrested by SPD officers at the daycare facility without incident, according to SPD. She was booked on two counts of simple assault and transported to the Tate County Jail with a $1,000 bond.

Those with any information regarding any other previous incidents or concerns about the Peek-A-Boo Playschool are asked by police to contact Detective Brannon Rushing of the SPD.

This is still an ongoing investigation, according to the SPD.
