Controversial apartment complex Serenity Towers to be sold to new ownership

A representative of Millennia Holdings announced their intention to sell Serenity Towers at a board meeting on Wednesday.

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn — Millennia Holdings announced their intention to sell Serenity Towers at a meeting of the Board of Health, Education and Housing on Wednesday, as members of the Memphis Tenants Union had showed up to declare their frustration with the standard of living.

Serenity Towers issues have long been known in the city. Over the summer, they had no A/C. Now as temperatures drop, there's no heat.

“I’ve got to move on. I am a vet, you know? I deserve a little bit better than this. I ain’t talking about a castle either. I’m talking about someplace that don’t have the bugs and you have that respect as a tenant,” said Serenity Towers resident Vincent Wilson.

Many of the people who live in Serenity towers are elderly and struggle to navigate downstairs when the power goes out.

“I don’t know if Memphis Housing is going to take over or not. But if they do, I’ve got a housing voucher, but I don’t think I want to remain here. Bedbugs and black mold? A lot of seniors, I feel bad for them because they’ve got top floors in there. So, in case of fire, the fire trucks are here quite often,” Wilson said.

Though Millenia Holdings announced their intention, nothing official has been set in stone just yet. We’ll continue to learn more about the timeline for when this would take place and keep you updated.
