MILLINGTON, Tenn. — The Millington clerk’s office closed early on Tuesday, Nov. 14, due to internet issues, Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halbert shared on Facebook.
"Millington County Clerk office (and others) internet is down again," the clerk states in the post. "It appears there are issues being worked on by the provided cable/service team. Because there is no idea when the services will be up and running, the office is closed until the services are restored."
It is unclear what locations also have internet issues.
Before this, during the week of Nov. 11, the Poplar Plaza Shelby County Clerk’s Office closed abruptly after county leaders released information about unpaid rent. County Clerk Halbert later admitted to being behind on payments. Now, residents are upset and tired of taking off work to handle their clerk’s office needs. Curiously, other offices nearby and in the same building were not having internet issues.
One resident showed up when the office was closed when it was supposed to be open. He said he thinks something else is going on. He happens to also be a technician and said it is possible for different offices in one building to not have internet while other offices do. However, with everything going on with the clerk’s offices, he is skeptical about when he’ll be able to get what he needs done.
There is no clear timeline on when the Millington office will be back up and running, but customers said they are hopeful Halbert will do more than post to Facebook to inform them of operational changes.
