MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said a dog taken during a carjacking in Memphis has been reunited with his family after being found Thursday.
The SCSO said deputies found the dog named Hershey just before 8 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2024, in the Waverly Farms area of north Shelby County. They learned the dog had been taken during a carjacking in Memphis, and were able to return Hershey to his worried family.
Memphis Police said the dog had been taken during a carjacking Saturday, June1, at the Shell Gas Station in the 6100 block of Summer Ave. near Raleigh-Lagrange. Investigators said the victim was walking to his black 2006 Chevrolet Silverado when two suspects approached claiming they were out of gas and money.
The victim told police he was filling up a gas jug when the two suspects started hitting him several times with guns. He said they then took his keys and one of them took off in his truck with the dog still inside. MPD said the second suspect followed in a silver Chevrolet sedan.
Investigators said the suspects were later seen on surveillance video at the Citgo in the 4100 block of Jackson Ave.
MPD is still searching for the suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
