Here's when the Shelby County Juvenile Court is expected to reopen

The court was closed down temporarily on April 24, after news of asbestos, mold and lead in the building.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Editor's note: A previous version of this story attributed this information to a spokesperson for the Shelby County Juvenile Court. This has been updated.

The court was closed down temporarily on April 24, after news of asbestos, mold and lead in the building.

On Friday, a spokesperson for Judge Tarik Sugarman's administration said the Shelby County Juvenile Court building is expected to reopen this summer.

The closure forced the court to reschedule hearings and relocate others and forced workers to work virtually or in other government buildings.

The Juvenile Court released information on where business will be conducted while work continues on the main building at 616 Adams Ave.

Here’s where work will be conducted in the meantime:

  • Child support, purge payments, bond payments, garnishments, restitution and all other secure payments through the Juvenile Court Clerk’s Office can be done at 201 Poplar Ave. on the 3rd Floor.
  • Court filings can be processed at two locations:
  • Victims’ compensation can be requested at 1075 Mullins Station Road. Only credit or debit cards will be accepted at that office, and be aware it has a clear bag policy.

Juvenile Court hearings are at the following locations:

  • Non-Custodial Parent’s Office and child support contempt hearings will be held at 201 Poplar Ave. on the 4th Floor.
  • Delinquency out-of-custody hearings will be held at 140 Adams Ave. on the 3rd Floor.
  • All in-custody Juvenile Court hearings will be held at the Youth Justice & Education Center at 3420 Old Getwell Road.

The Shelby County Juvenile Court’s Protective Services Department and Traffic Department will be located at 1075 Mullins Station Road, Building W2.
