18-year-old, twins charged in shooting of FedEx employee in Memphis

According to the affidavit, surveillance footage captured three suspects approaching the victim's car and looking through the windows right before the shooting.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An 18-year-old and twins have been charged in the shooting of a FedEx employee, according to court records.

Memphis Police officers responded to a shooting call at the FedEx Hub parking lot around 4 a.m. on Oct. 30, located at 2810 Democrat Road.

Officers found the victim inside the "North Tower" with multiple gunshot wounds to his arm and chest. The victim told police he had been shot in the north end of the parking lot and drove to the "North Tower" for help after the shooting, according an affidavit.

Surveillance footage captured three suspects approaching the victim's car and looking through the windows about 20 minutes before the shooting. All three suspects were seen entering a small sedan parked near the victim's car.

When the victim was at his car, the same three men were seen on camera at the crime scene, just moments before the shooting took place.

Investigators spoke with the victim, who said he recognized the suspects by face and phone number, because they worked in the same area and were part of a group chat together.

Through the investigation, Tyreese Earnest, Ja'Marcus Odell and Ja'Marion Odell — all 18 — were identified as the suspects involved in the shooting.

Earnest was taken to the Airport Police Headquarters for further questioning, where he waived his rights and agreed to speak with officials.

During the interview, Earnest admitted to his involvement in the shooting and identified the other two suspects, who are twins, as being present at the scene, the affidavit said.

According to investigators, phone number provided by the victim was found to be registered to a phone recovered from Earnest.

The victim identified Earnest as the suspect who shot him and stated that he was told "If you move imma shoot you" moments before shots were fired.

Ja'Marcus Odell confessed he was involved in the assault and told investigators Ja'Marion drove all three of them from the crime scene in their father's car.

Earnest is facing multiple charges, including criminal attempt to commit second-degree murder, employing a firearm with intent to commit a felony, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, and vandalism (damage of $1,000 or less). He was released on his own recognizance on Nov. 12.

The twins were charged with attempted facilitation of second-degree murder. They are in the Shelby County Jail without bond.

The victim's car reportedly sustained bullet hole damage during the incident.

A FedEx spokesperson previously stated that an employee accidentally fired his personal gun in the parking lot. FedEx later released the following statement:

We are thankful our team member did not sustain serious injuries, and we hope for a speedy recovery. There is no higher priority than the safety and security of our team members, and we are cooperating fully with investigating authorities. All further questions should be directed to Memphis Police.
