MEMPHIS, Tenn — A man was found shot outside of First Baptist Church Memphis on Monday night has been upgraded to non-critical, according to Memphis police.
The Memphis Police Department (MPD) said they responded to the scene on the 200 block of East Parkway North shortly after 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2023. Police said a man was leaving the church when he saw at least four suspects breaking into cars.
Investigators said he was shot in the hand and leg. They said the victim pulled out a gun, but did not fire. He was taken to Regional One Hospital.
According to the police report, a pastor and others inside the church heard five to ten shots, and said a bullet went through one of the church windows. Investigators said they found three other bullets had hit the building. MPD said a gun was found on the ground near a ramp to the church.
Investigators said the suspects took off in a silver Toyota Camry with a missing headlight, headed north on East Parkway to Poplar, then to Summer Ave. and last seen north on Glanker St.
