MEMPHIS, Tenn — With the hot temperatures rising across the Mid-South, Memphians will be relying on their air conditioning units more and more.
Jason Alford with Memphis Air Conditioning & Heating said they often see HVAC units start to struggle when temperatures hit 95 degrees or more.
He said the busy season for air conditioning repair started in April but expects things to ramp up even more the hotter it gets.
Alford said the most important things for people to remember are to change their filters and set the thermostat between 72 and 74 degrees to make sure the units don’t give out and help keep the utility bill down.
“It’s a lot harder on your air conditioner to cut it off and let it go to 80 degrees and then turn it back on and expect it to go back to 70 or 72 degrees,” Alford said. “So, it makes your air conditioner work a lot harder. It’s a lot easier to let it run all day long at a little bit warmer temperature.”
HVAC companies recommend regularly scheduled maintenance, like having the outdoor condenser cleaned with chemicals once a year.
