MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Residents in the Southeast Memphis apartment complex Champaign Place Apartments have no air conditioning.
The Champaign Place Apartments used to be a hotel, and like most hotels, you cannot just open the window and the ventilation is different than a standard apartment.
“Last year we we’re without air and it was 108 degrees outside," resident Kennedy Settles told ABC24. "(Management) got on here and told everyone (they were) going to help with the air, (they were) going to buy air conditioners. She was going to take money off the rent.”
We’ve reported in the last year on the air issues at this complex right off of American Way and Cherry Rd. three separate times and additional times back in 2018.
“We need some answers, and we need the correct answers," Settles said. "I need to know who owns them; who’s the corporate? Can I speak to corporate? Because I have already spoke to attorneys; I am tired of getting threatened every two weeks and I’m paying my rent.”
Last summer management told ABC24 they ordered "new parts" to fix the air conditioning system and they were waiting for them to arrive and they had a similar answer today.
“The information that I know is that we’re waiting for some parts to come in," Melissa Garcia the Champaign Place Assistant Manager told ABC24.
The City of Memphis tells ABC24 that once again the city is dispatching code enforcement to re-inspect this property on March 28.
