MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A person is in critical condition following a shooting in South Memphis, says the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

MPD responded to a shooting with injuries at 713 Regent Ave just before 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12.

When officers arrived on the scene they noticed a person laying in the driveway bleeding from a gunshot wound.

According to MPD, the victim appeared to be in shock and could only state that he was shot by an unknown person and that he wanted some water.

MPD positively identified the victim as the person who lives at 713 Regent Ave with his mother.

Officers later spoke with a witness who stated that she was the girlfriend of the victim.

The witness told officers she was inside the home when she heard a gunshot coming from outside. After hearing the shot, the witness allegedly looked outside and saw the victim laying on the ground bleeding, MPD says.

The victim was taken to Regional One in critical condition.

Officers video surveillance cameras and located cameras affixed to 727 Regent Ave aimed towards the street that may have captured images of suspect unknown fleeing the scene, says MPD.

Officers noticed video surveillance cameras at 1231 Pond St and at 706 Lucy Ave that may have images of the suspect fleeing the scene.

MPD was advised that felony response would be making the scene at Regional One to follow up with the victim.
