SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. —
People living in a Southeast Shelby County apartment complex are among several under the Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) Boil Water Advisory.
Residents at Ashland Lakes Apartment Homes said they noticed water pressure getting low on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Then by Thursday morning, there was no water pressure at all.
Residents were unable to wash their hands, bathe or even flush their toilets.
ABC24 saw people bringing cases of water into their apartments. Some even walked over 2 miles to the nearest grocery store to avoid driving on the icy, snow-filled roads.
One woman who lives there had to get creative. She said she is glad she saved all the water she left dripping when temperatures were below freezing.
"Luckily, I used a bucket in the tub while the pressure was low. I put a bucket in the tub to fill up. So, I have that now to at least use to dip and flush the toilet,” she said.
Chris Gurley lives a few doors down from her. He not only hopes to get the water back running, but he also wants to see the roads cleared soon.
"It’s not too bad if you know how to drive. But it’s not an easy thing to do.” said Gurly. “It would help if they started clearing the parking lot and stuff. They didn't even put no ice melt down this year,” he continued.
MLGW said outages like the one at Ashland Lakes are due to an increase in demand over the last 24 hours.
