MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Summer classes and registration will be delayed at Southwest Tennessee Community College after a cyber incident impacted its network, the college announced Sunday, July 7.
Computer forensics experts are working with the college to investigate the incident and return computer systems to their full functionality. The College is also collaborating with the Tennessee Board of Regents and appropriate state officials.
"We are deeply committed to protecting important information our students and employees entrust to us," said Tracy D. Hall, president of Southwest Tennessee Community College, in a news release. "Unfortunately, in the current digital landscape, cybercriminal incidents are increasingly prevalent and pose considerable risks. Our team responded promptly to secure our systems and are diligently working to restore our online services and strengthen our defenses. We appreciate the cooperation and patience of our students, faculty and staff as we navigate this circumstance."
The college said the issue goes beyond a server problem that was reported on July 3.
Remote work and learning will continue at the college, while Summer II Term classes and registration will be delayed until Monday, July 15. Registration has been extended through July 19.
The Macon Cove and Union Avenue campuses' child care centers will continue to operate during normal business hours.
Updates on any potential impacts to students and employees will be provided through official channels, the college said.
