MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – This weekend is the St. Jude marathon and the Memphis Tigers’ AACchampionship game at Liberty Bowl stadium. And that means road closures andtraffic concerns.
Memphis police say they are prepared.
Saturday’s marathon is the largest single-day fundraiser for St.Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
26,000 runners and 40,000 spectators are expected to be here thatday.
Most of these road closures start Friday night at 10:00 p.m. and will last until Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. (Find the course maps & closures HERE.)
This also affects those who will go to the Liberty Bowl to cheeron the Memphis Tigers as they play the Cincinnati Bearcats in the AACchampionship game which starts at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
“I hope we’ll see this as an absolutely fantasticweekend for the city of Memphis to have over 26,000 runners from all 50 states,17 foreign countries. Of course, what we hope is a Tiger win in the afternoon,just a great way to showcase what we think makes Memphis an incredible city,”said Emily Callahan, Chief Marketing & Experience Officer, ALSAC.
Because of the route, MATA is detouring buses in those areas starting at 9:00 p.m. Friday through 2:00 p.m. Saturday. (Find more on the detours HERE and find more on the MATA service alerts HERE.)
