A man is in custody after Marshall County deputies say he fired at people on a busy highway.

Police have 28-year-old Brandon Chambers of Oakland, Tennessee, in the Marshall County jail right now. The Marshall County sheriff says Chambers burglarized two homes prior to the shootings.

The incident began about 12:15 p.m., and shut down Highway 72 near Slayden for more than an hour. Highway 72 is back open in both directions, and no one was injured in the shootings.

Marshall county deputies took Chambers into custody just before 3:00 p.m. Tuesday. They found him hiding in a home off Highway 72 in Marshall County. Investigators are still trying to figure out a motive at this point.

Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson says Chambers broke into at least two homes on Highway 72 before firing at cars on the highway. Sheriff Dickerson says Chambers used a revolver that was stolen from one if those homes. Those bullets hit a mail carrier truck, and investigators say the bullet barely missed the driver.

Sheriff Dickerson says once the suspect fired shots at vehicles, he ran from this scene and into a nearby wooded area. Deputies located him hiding in one of the homes.

Sheriff Dickerson says Chambers is expected to face serious charges like burglary and attempted murder.
