TDOT reinforcing 'Move Over Law' after 33 operators reportedly hit statewide

The penalty for violating Tennessee's "Move Over Law" is a fine of up to $500 and up to 30 days in jail.

TENNESSEE, USA — The Tennessee Highway Patrol is alerting drivers to slow down and be more careful around TDOT workers who are assisting other drivers on the roads.

Tennessee has a Move Over law that requires oncoming drivers to get out of the way when they come up on an emergency on the shoulder of a highway.

TDOT said 33 of its 'help' operators statewide have been hit so far this year, including five in October alone. Three of these instances happened in Memphis.

The penalty for violating the law is a fine of up to 500 dollars and up to 30 days in jail.
