MEMPHIS, Tenn — The Memphis Police Department (MPD) arrested and charged a teacher from Granville T. Woods Academy after responding to a complaint regarding a sexual video of him.
Chester Porter, 46, was detained at the school Thursday, August 1, 2024. According to court records, Porter is charged with statutory rape, sexual battery by an authority figure, and soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor. He is in the Shelby County Jail on $500,000 bond. A mental evaluation was ordered during a hearing Aug. 20, according to court records.
MPD officers learned that an inappropriate video of Porter had circulated throughout the school and was initially recorded on social media. Police were able to identify the victim and said they were able confirm Porter’s inappropriate behavior in school and online.
When investigators questioned a 15-year-old student, she informed them that the teacher had been sexual with her, initiated sexual conversations, and touched her inappropriately as well.
Police said that Porter admitted to being the man in the video and to having sexual conversations with multiple students.
Those events happened for several months during the 2023-2024 school year, according to the affidavit.
