MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Following a police chase in Memphis, a 17-year-old has been charged with carjacking, employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated robbery and evading arrest, according to Memphis Police.

Officers said they responded to a person getting robbed on South Highland Street and Walker Avenue on Dec. 28. Officers said they were told that a black sedan stopped on Walker Avenue and turned on its hazard lights.

Police were then told that three armed men exited the sedan, walked up to people and pointed guns at them. These victims said these men demanded their property, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

Items that were taken include cell phones, air pods, cash and credit cards, according to MPD. The suspects then left the scene going west on Walker Avenue, reportedly.

Then, on Dec. 29, officers said they responded shortly after 1 a.m. to a robbery call at the Waffle House on 8135 Varnavas Drive. Officers said they were told that a man followed an employee of this Waffle House before demanding money.

More suspects entered the business, taking money from employees and the business before leaving in a black sedan, according to MPD.

Officers said they responded to a carjacking on 4590 Summer Avenue at the Superman gas station towards 4 a.m. Officers were told that the victim and the victim's girlfriend stopped there to get gas before this time.

Two men armed with guns reportedly exited a black Infiniti sedan and demanded the victims get out of their car. The victims told police that their Saturn Vue was then stolen as the suspects drove it northbound on North Perkins, according to MPD.

Then, officers said about twenty minutes after 4 a.m., they responded to a business robbery at Howard's Donuts (located at 4348 Summer Avenue). Officers were told that two men entered the business and got behind the counter before pointing guns at an employee and demanding money.

These suspects got cash from the office of the business and from the register before leaving in a gray SUV, according to MPD. Officers were reportedly told what the tag on the SUV was and it was revealed to be the stolen Saturn Vue from the Superman gas station.

Police then issued a broadcast about the robbery and more officers in the 1000 block of National Street saw the car, according to MPD. They tried to stop it but the driver of the vehicle refused and a police chase started, according to MPD.

The car reportedly stopped at Henry and Peachtree before three suspects ran away on foot, according to MPD. Officers said they apprehended one of the suspects in the 3400 block of Henry and also found a weapon that this person had.

All in all, a 17-year-old has been charged with two counts of carjacking, two counts of employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, unlawful possession of a weapon, eight counts of aggravated robbery and evading arrest.
