The Tennessee Bathroom Bill, which if passed would require transgender students to use the bathrooms that match their sex at birth, is advancing in the state senate.
The senate education committee voted 7 to 3 in favor of the measure yesterday.
The bill was defeated in the House earlier this week, but Republican representative Jim Coley of Bartlett said he will seek to have the House Education Administration and Planning Committee reconsider its decision to study the measure.
Governor Haslam has said the bill could endanger federal education funding.
He wants to leave the issue to local school districts to decide.
