For children with incarcerated parents’ holidays can be difficult, but a local church in Frayser uplifted their spirits with a special Christmas program.
The Angel Tree Prison Fellowship program from Pursuit of God Transformation Center gave out gifts to more than 120 children Friday night.
The program allows incarcerated moms and dads to send gifts to their children.
Organizers say the program is vital for a number of reasons.
“There are 2.7 million children with a parent who is incarcerated. Everyone of those children has value. Everyone of those children need love. Regardless of the mistakes of those parents. We want these children to know they have a community who loves them. And they have an opportunity not to follow the same path as their parents who are incarcerated.” says Brenda McGowan, the National Director of Prison Fellowship
Organizers say they need more churches to step forward to help sponsor a prison ministry program in their community.
