TUNICA, Miss — The Tunica County, Mississippi, Sheriff's Office said Wednesday they now have an 18-year-old in custody, charged with murder for the shooting deaths of three people, including a pregnant woman and her unborn child, earlier in November.
The Sheriff's Office said 18-year-old Deonte Carnell Taylor was charged Wednesday with three counts of capital murder, four counts of shooting into a motor vehicle, and four counts of conspiracy to commit crime after three people were found dead in a car near the Tunica casinos.
Deputies responded just before 9:30 p.m. Nov. 10, 2023, to a scene where a car had run off the road and was possibly on fire on Casino Center Dr. in Robinsonville, 12 miles from Tunica.
The sheriff's office said that when officers arrived, they found the car, which had hit a pole. They said the car had several bullet holes, and three people dead.
The sheriff's office identified the victims as Deshun Montarrio Isabell, 24, of Tunica, Steven Dewayne Burts, 23, of Dundee, MS, and Tednequa Tenice Moore, 25, of Robinsonville.
Their bodies were taken to the Mississippi Crime Lab for autopsies. Those autopsies reportedly revealed that Isabell was not shot, but died as the result of trauma sustained in the vehicle accident, according to Tunica County Sheriff's Office.
The Tunica County Sheriff's Office said that Burts — the driver of the vehicle — was shot multiple times.
Tenice Moore was also shot multiple times, according to the Tunica County Sheriff's Office, and was pregnant with an unborn child.
Taylor is being held without bond, and could face the death penalty in Mississippi if convicted.
