MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A train crashed into a Memphis police cruiser Wednesday night in Castalia Heights.
The Memphis Police Department was responding to a prowler call May 22, 2024, just before 10:30 p.m. at a railroad yard in the 1700 block of Airways Boulevard. There, officers saw several men running away from rail carts.
Police ran after a man heading west toward Castalia Road. At this time, another officer pulled up on the scene and received word that the suspect was running in his direction. The officer stopped his squad car on the railroad tracks at the Castalia Heights and East Person Avenue intersection, then left to cut the suspect off.
During the chase, a train collided with the squad car.
An ABC24 photographer saw the cruiser's passenger door crushed, window broken and the airbags deployed.
The officer was not injured.
