State arson investigators are trying to determine what caused a house fire that killed two small children and sent their grandmother to the hospital.

It happened on Shoaf Road in Covington around 3:00 a.m. Friday morning.

The grandmother was taken here to the burn unit. Relatives said she is doing okay.

However the death of the two children is now causing a family feud.

“I don’t know what happened. That (expletive) needs to go to jail,” Cunningham said.

Cunningham blames her mother for the death of her two small children. Cunningham was not home at the time the fire started. The children were being watched by their grandma.

“She laying on the pavement. (Explative) my children still in their (expletive) you ain’t said (expletive) about getting my (expletive) life out (expletive) their (expletive) man,” Cunnigham said.

The media was kept back from the scene while arson investigators collected evidence trying to piece together what caused the fire.

Neighbors watched it all unfold.

“Came outside. Saw the babies getting put in the ambulance and I seen the grandma getting put in the ambulance. It was tragic like something I’ve never witnessed in my life,” neighbor John Robinson said.

Many have questions, such as what started the fire? Where was the children’s mother? They hope someone is held responsible.

“Ugh I just hope there is justice served for the babies. They didn’t ask for that,” neighbor Sherry Hill said.

Family members tell us the children died from smoke inhalation.

No word on how long the grandmother is expected to remain in the hospital.. We are told she has burns on her back.
