Hernando Police identify three people killed in what investigators said appears to be a murder-suicide

The Hernando Police Department responded to a 911 call Sunday morning in regard to multiple gunshots on Mason Drive.

HERNANDO, Miss — Hernando Police said three people are dead after what they believe may have been a murder-suicide over the weekend.

HPD said officers responded to a 911 call just after 8 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024, from someone who said they had been woken up by several gunshots on Mason Drive. Investigators said three people were found shot at a home along the street.

Police said 51-year-old Kelley Denise Cincurak was found shot on a back patio. She was taken by helicopter to Regional One Hospital in Memphis, where she died from her injuries.

Investigators said 78-year-old Mary Janice Ray was found shot to death in a breakfast room where she had been watching TV.  HPD said 71-year-old Rickie Thomas Ray was found dead in the master bedroom, along with two firearms. They said it appeared he had shot himself. Both were turned over to the DeSoto County Coroner.

"The Hernando Police Department would like to express our condolences and offer our prayers to the families, friends, and members of our community affected by this incident," said the department in a news release. "At this time, items of evidence are in the process of being turned over to the Mississippi Crime Lab for further analysis and law enforcement personnel are following up on all information involving the details of this incident.  The Hernando Police Department is confident in reiterating that this was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the community or on-going concerns for the citizens of Hernando."
