Two former Memphis police officers indicted in crash

The May 6, 2023 crash left one woman dead.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two former Memphis Police Department officers have been indicted on criminal charges following a May 6, 2023 crash that left one woman dead.

The former officers, Ontarian Malone and Marquavius Williams, have both been charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving death, six counts of official misconduct, four for leaving the scene of an accident, according to court records and confirmation from the Shelby County District Attorney's Office.

Preliminary information indicated that a police pursuit may have occurred before the crash, although that has not been confirmed, according to MPD at the time of the wreck.

The Tennessee Highway patrol had been called to handle the investigation into this crash, according to MPD. THP did not comment Friday afternoon.

MPD officials said in a statement Friday that Williams and Malone resigned while under investigation.

"There is pending litigation related to the incident involving both former officers," the statement said. "It is our standard practice not to comment on ongoing litigation."

The former officers were booked May 8 and both have been released on bond.

The two have a bond arraignment set for June 21.
