Two-year-old in hospital after self-inflicted shooting, Shelby County Sheriff's Office says

The child was alert and breathing but transported in critical condition by the Shelby County Fire Department to LeBonheur Hospital, according to SCSO.

A two-year-old child has reportedly shot himself and is in the hospital, according to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office (SCSO). 

Detectives are now investigating after the incident took place on Friday, Oct. 27 at the 2000 block of Garney Road in north Shelby County, according to SCSO. Shortly after 10 p.m. is when a two-year-old shot himself in the face with an unsecured handgun, according to SCSO.

The child was alert and breathing but transported in critical condition by the Shelby County Fire Department to LeBonheur Hospital, according to SCSO.

The child was upgraded to non-critical condition, according to SCSO.

The investigation is said to be ongoing by SCSO as of press time.
