David Kustoff Wins GOP Primary For U.S. House DIst. 8

The winners are in for the primaries for the Republican and Democratic nominations for U.S. House of Representatives District 8 seat.

For the G.O.P, David Kustoff beat out George S. Flinn Jr. and Colleen Owens for the Republican nomination.

It was a steady crowd at the Marriot in East Memphis, filled with supporters of Congressman David Kustoff as they watched him clinch the Republican primary Thursday.

Representative Kustoff lives in Germantown. Most recently he gained an endorsement by President Donald Trump on Twitter.

The Congressman has quite a bit of experience, currently serving on the financial services committee, where he helps to balance our nation’s debt. Recently, he introduced legislation to combat the rampant opioid epidemic.

Rep. Kustoff co-sponsored the student loan opportunity act. He says he is also committed to defunding Planned Parenthood.

The former U.S. Attorney, appointed back in 2015, told his supporters his plan for his next term in office.

“I think people appreciate the conservative agenda that I’ve worked for. Implementing tax cuts which have helped the economy, not only in Shelby County but in West Tennessee and across that nation,” said Kustoff. “Working with the President on the immigration problems and to secure our borders. To reduce harmful regulations that have been burdensome to people to the economy and business owners.”

Congressman Kustoff grew up in Shelby County. He says next, he is just preparing for November.

The race between John Boatner and Erika Stotts Pearson for the Democratic nod has been neck-and-neck. According to the unofficial results from the Tennessee Election Commission, it appears Stotts Pearson won over Boatner by a few hundred votes.

The two winners will face off in the next election Tuesday, November 6th.
