U.S. Marshals reportedly capture murder fugitive in Humboldt, Tennessee

A 49-year-old man who was wanted for second degree murder in connection to a 2023 overdose death in Humboldt, Tennessee was reportedly taken into custody on Thursday.

U.S. Marshals said they captured Monty Jones around noon on Thursday at a residence in the 400 block of West Grand Street in Jackson.

On Nov. 9, 2023, a woman was found dead at a residence in the 1200 block of North 28th Street in Humboldt, according to the marshals. An investigation by detectives with the Humboldt Police Department determined that the woman had died from an overdose of a controlled substance provided by Jones, they said.

On April 1, 2024, a grand jury reportedly returned an indictment charging Jones with second degree murder.
