Wanda Halbert gets help to correct issues with Shelby County Clerk's Office

"We are welcoming Mrs. Hooks to assist however she can to address the myriad of issues we know exist and have reported," said Halbert in a statement.

MEMPHIS, Tenn — Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halbert says she will accept the help to fix the many issues that have been plaguing her office for more than a year now.

The county hired former City Parks Director and Memphis City Councilwoman Janet Hooks as a special advisor. She'll help with issues like long lines for car owners needing tag renewals.

The county clerk is an elected position, which is why Halbert can't easily be fired for all the problems.

Halbert released the following statement:

“Former City of Memphis Councilwoman and City Executive Janet Hooks and the Hooks family are well respected historical officials, public servants and civil rights advocates. Along with her professional and business acumen, we are welcoming Mrs. Hooks to assist however she can to address the myriad of issues we know exist and have reported. Our team is certain she will be an asset to this process and look forward to working with her.”
