Bus crash in Warren County leaves 7 dead and over 30 injured, says MHP

The Mississippi Highway Patrol said six passengers were declared dead at the scene early Saturday and another died at a hospital.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) responded to a deadly bus crash in Warren County with several injuries.

MHP says they arrived at the deadly crash on Interstate 20 near Bovina on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, just after 12:30 a.m.

The 2018 Volvo Commercial Passenger Bus was traveling west before it ran off the road and flipped over, according to MHP.

The crash was caused by tire failure, the National Transportation Safety Board said on social media platform X.

Six travelers were found dead on the scene, and another traveler died at Merit Health Hospital in Vicksburg. The dead included a 6-year-old boy and his 16-year-old sister, according to Warner County Coroner Doug Huskey.

A total of 37 riders were transported with unknown injuries to several hospitals in the Vicksburg and Jackson area. The co-driver was not transported, says MHP.

This crash remains under investigation by the MHP and the Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division.
